WHAT WE OFFER
Individual Therapy
The majority of our clients come to our center for individual therapy. These one-to-one sessions with the therapist also include parents and other family members, as needed. Individual therapy is conducted in a variety of formats in order to best meet the needs of our clients. Sessions are also designed with the developmental level of the child in mind so that he or she can fully benefit from time spent with the individual therapist. While “talk” therapy is one of the most common formats for individual therapy, we also use other methods of therapeutic interventions. For example, clients with developmental delays or communication deficits can still benefit from individual therapy sessions through a variety of different approaches such as play and art therapy.
Group Therapy
We do not teach you anything; we only help you discover yourselves.
We hold a wide variety of group meetings for clients of all ages on diverse topics in mental health. At Canton Child and Family Therapy Clinic, we promote the use of group therapy as a source of helping clients seek social support and a sense of community with individuals struggling with similar emotional concerns and life stressors. Our clients benefit from a number of group therapy topics, which include:
· Anxiety for teens
· Social skills
· Process groups (i.e., sharing general struggles and concerns)
· Generalized anxiety
· Panic disorder
· Depression
· Bereavement
· Substance Abuse
· Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
· Attention Deficit
· Hyperactivity Disorder
· Cultural Trauma
Parenting
We offer joint sessions with parents who are experiencing communication difficulties with their child or teenager, as well as helping parents learn to implement effective, appropriate, and consistent discipline. At Canton Child and Family Therapy Clinic, we will develop an individually tailored plan for parents to aid in transforming their relationship with their child and improving dynamics in the home environment.
Couples Therapy
Relationships require the investment of lifelong effort, dedication, and healthy communication to maintain a lasting bond between couples. We provide marital and couples therapy to help you and your partner cope with and transition through stressors ranging from conflict/ “not getting along” to separation, divorce, infidelity, difficulty with child rearing, and communication difficulties.
Psychological Assessment
Canton Child and Family Therapy Clinic specializes in the administration, analyses, and reporting of a variety of psychological and psychoeducational assessments. Most commonly, parents come to us after being referred by their child’s school for a learning disability evaluation, intellectual assessment, behavioral assessment (e.g., if ADHD or a behavioral problem is suspected), or career counseling for students in high school. We also conduct diagnostic testing for the purposes of clarifying an existing diagnosis. Our assessment professionals will gather all pertinent information, such as academic records, teacher feedback, and previous testing results, which is included in the final assessment report. We also provide self-report assessments to parents in order to gather comprehensive information about the child’s social, emotional, behavioral, and academic functioning.
Depending on the reason for referral, we carefully select the battery of assessments necessary to make the appropriate recommendations and suggestions for accommodations. Our testing services include:
· Intellectual (IQ)
· Academic Achievement
· Behavioral
· Personality
· Projective (e.g., Rorschach Inkblot Test)
Career Counseling
We offer career counseling for teens transitioning into young adulthood.
Family Therapy
Canton Child and Family Therapy Clinic highly recognizes the importance of family healthy dynamics in optimizing one’s emotional health and quality of life. We incorporate immediate and if necessary, extended family members. We also utilize family therapy in conjunction with individual therapy for clients who might benefit from both services.
Military Families
Canton Child and Family Therapy Clinic honors the service and sacrifice that military service members and their families make so that we can all enjoy safety and freedom. We also understand the ongoing stressors faced by this population due to various factors such as deployment and for adjusting to returning home from service. We offer individual, family, and couples therapy for military families with a special focus on the unique concerns and challenges of military life.
Referrals
We make every effort to provide all individuals who contact us, or come through our doors, with our dedicated service. However, we are also committed to providing the highest quality care with the utmost competency. This means that if your needs extend beyond our areas of expertise, we will gladly refer you to a local mental health professional who may be better able to serve you.
